Ashland City Council will review the yearly use of force report for the Ashland Police Department and review the performance of Interim City Manager Sabrina Cotta at study session and business meetings this week.
The APD has shared a use of force report with council since 2008, growing in its scope to include crime and clearance rates, the enhanced law enforcement area, and recent data on law enforcement activity, according to an agenda item. The use of force report will be presented by Ashland Police Chief Tighe O’Meara during the Monday, June 17, study session.
Council will also review the progress made by the utility billing department to increase staffing and improve procedures during the study session, according to an agenda item.
Listed under unfinished business for the Tuesday, June 18, business meeting, council will discuss a performance review for the city manager, but the agenda item does not contain additional information. The open session item is in addition to a related item on an executive session prior to the regular business meeting.
At the business meeting council will also review procedures for termination of utility billing, vote on second readings for two right of way vacations, a chemical procurement contract for the water and wastewater treatment plants and refine the city’s building code to align with current statutes and requirements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to meeting materials.
The meetings will be held at the Ashland City Council chamber, 1175 East Main St.. The study session Monday begins at 5:30 p.m., while the Tuesday business meeting begins at 6 p.m. Both meetings can be attended in person or watched remotely through Channel 9 or Channels 180 and 181 (Charter Communications) or live streamed via rvtv.sou.edu select RVTV Prime.
Public testimony will be accepted and can be delivered either via Zoom, in person, or as written comment. To sign up for public comment, fill out the public testimony form.
