A discussion about contemporary art will be followed by the spectacle of a bronze pour this Saturday; a Ser Anima event featuring experimental performance artists arrives May 30
By Art Van Kraft for Ashland.news
Ashland artists have joined the latest effort to bring contemporary art to the Rogue Valley. A series of local events is designed to engage the public and showcase new forms of art.
Series organizer Beca Blake has reached out to other markets to find innovative ways art is evolving and bring those ideas here.
Artist panel discussion followed by bronze pour, Saturday, May 24
The series will begin with a panel discussion at the Langford Art Gallery in Phoenix at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 24. After the discussion there will be a bronze pour event by sculptor Jack Langford. The gallery is at 4850 S. Pacific Highway.
The audience is invited to join contemporary artists Dawn Bassett, Micah Blacklight, Ness Hallow and Candace la Tia in the panel discussion about the importance of supporting and developing contemporary art and culture in Southern Oregon. Blake will moderate the discussion.
The panel discussion will be followed by a live bronze pouring event by Langford. Bronze pours are special events in the art world. Always at night, the hot, molten bronze is poured into a sculpture mold. The fiery metal lights up the sky and the casting is surrounded, at a safe distance, by a crowd.
Sylvain Brown will provide gongfu cha tea service to attendees.
The event is sponsored by the Phoenix Art & Culture Council as a part of the council’s creative urban development initiatives.
Ser Anima performance art Friday, May 30
After a wildly successful debut, Ser Anima returns with a one-night-only performance art event showcasing a roster of experimental and ultra-contemporary performance artists. The event is set for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 30.
Each artist will deliver an intimate, genre-defying performance rooted in their unique art discipline. The first ser Anima event drew a full house — this second edition will be ticketed only due to limited capacity. The 10 performance artists are from
- Aurora Quinn
- Lilith Andromeda
- Beca Blake
- Candace la Tia
- Ness Hallow
- Wali Tipping
- Eylianna Gibson
- Rylan Mount
- Missy Galore
- Willow River
Attendees are encouraged to secure tickets early. Find a link to the electronic ticket portal via www.phoenixhelio.com or reach out to [email protected]. Please note: This event is for mature audiences only because of the experimental and evocative nature of the performances.
