Recology waste disposal cost expected to tick up less than a dollar a month for a typical account

A review of operations and expenditures at the severe weather shelter at 2200 Ashland St. during the 2023-24 winter season is on the agenda for the Ashland City Council study session on Monday evening.
Emergency Management Coordinator Kelly Burns will share a “summary of operations,” according to meeting materials.
Council will also review a rate increase of 3.8% from Recology due to a consumer price index-based adjustment allowed for in the city’s franchise agreement with Recology. The “typical customer” can expect an increase in waste management costs of less than a dollar a month, according to meeting materials.
At the council business meeting Tuesday, city Housing Program Manager Linda Reid will present the Housing and Human Services recommendations for which applicants to award $134,000 in grant funding for regional social services organizations. Reid will also present the committee’s recommendations for $350,000 in Affordable Housing Trust Funds.
In other council business, councilors will also be asked to vote on a three-year collective bargaining contract with the Ashland Police Association and a budget adjustment to accommodate a grant of $284,001 awarded to Ashland Fire & Rescue for community wildfire planning.
Council will also vote on a proposed contract to remove and replace asbestos-containing tiles at Briscoe Elementary School.
The meetings will be held in the Ashland City Council chamber at 1175 East Main St. The study session Monday will begin at 5:30 p.m., while the Tuesday business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Both meetings can be attended in person or watched remotely through Channel 9 or Channels 180 and 181 (Charter Communications) or live streamed via rvtv.sou.edu select RVTV Prime.
