By Bert Etling, Ashland.news
With high temperatures west of the Cascades expected to be around 100 to 110, a heat advisory will be in effect though most of Southern Oregon and Northern California starting at noon Saturday through 9 p.m. Sunday, according to an update issued late Wednesday by the Medford office of the National Weather Service.
The Ashland high will be 95 Friday and peak at 101 Saturday, according to the forecast, dipping to 96 on Sunday and 89 on Monday. Overnight lows will be nearly 40 degrees cooler Friday through Monday at about 63, 63, 59 and 53, respectively.
People should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors, the NWS recommends. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.
A cooling center will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Ashland Public Library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., for people needing to get out of the heat. Water and snacks will be available while supplies last. Service animals are welcome.
