Subcommittee has been working on improving working relationship between the two elected bodies

By Morgan Rothborne, Ashland.news

A joint study session including both Ashland Parks & Recreation Commissioners, Ashland City Council and the mayor will be held Wednesday evening with an agenda focused on the Bear Creek Greenway and improving the cooperative working relationship between the council and APRC.

The meeting continues on a thread of work already established in a previous informal meeting between members of both bodies, according to an agenda item. Mayor Graham, APRC Chair Jim Bachman, Council Chair Hyatt, and Commissioner Justin Adams were present at the meeting focused on “improved alignment of processes and procedures related to our shared resources and operational systems,” according to the staff report.

The future ability to “navigate shared responsibilities,” and “strengthening the relationship between the two bodies,” will be addressed Wednesday in the form of a discussion about whether a formal framework should be created to support these goals. Alignment for advisory committee structures and future training to ensure new employees can navigate the dual governing body structure will also be discussed, according to the agenda item.

APRC commissioners and City Councilors will also review a plan related to Envision Bear Creek Greenway but no staff report was available on the city website Tuesday evening.

The meeting is set to start at 6 p.m. in the Ashland City Council chamber, 1175 East Main St.

The meeting can be attended in person or watched remotely through Channel 9 or Channels 180 and 181 (Charter Communications) or live streamed via rvtv.sou.edu (select RVTV Prime).
