Defining a collaborative relationship with the City Council up for discussion at APRC meeting Wednesday

Ashland Parks & Recreation Commissioners will review the revised draft of a “new cooperative framework” developed in informal meetings between members of APRC and Ashland City Council.
The new framework intends to lubricate the machine of Ashland city government’s two elected bodies and has already been discussed and edited in a joint meeting of Ashland City Council and APRC commissioners Aug. 14. During the Wednesday APRC business meeting commissioners will further review the edited draft document.
In other commission business Wednesday, a new city ordinance dictating the proper formation and function of advisory committees will be under review to ensure commissioner’s feedback is reviewed by the city’s legal department. APRC has its own policy which will be modified, according to an agenda item.
Commissioners will also be reviewing a staff recommendation to formally create a trails advisory committee from an existing trails committee because, “it appears that group morphed into an advisory committee without being formed per city and APRC guidelines,” according to a staff report attributed to APRC Director Rocky Houston.
The meeting will be held in person starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Ashland City Council chamber at 1175 East Main St. The meeting can also be viewed on Channel 9 or Channels 180 and 181 (for Charter Communications) or live stream via rvtv.sou.edu select RVTV Prime.
Public testimony will be accepted in person for those who fill out a speaker request card. Written testimony will be accepted via email sent to nancy.mero@ashlandoregon.gov. Include “Public Testimony” in the subject line and send before 11 a.m. the Tuesday before the meeting to ensure it will be made available to the Parks Commissioners before the meeting.
