Woman struggled with thief in self-checkout lane; some belongings later recovered nearby

Ashland.news staff report

Ashland police are still looking for a man they say stole a woman’s purse during a struggle inside the Albertsons on Ashland Street on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Police Chief Tighe O’Meara said a man approached a woman in the Albertsons self-checkout lane and attempted to take her purse. According to O’Meara, the two engaged in a brief “tug-of-war” over it before he fled with the purse.

O’Meara said some of the contents were later found on a neighboring property, but the man remains at large.

Those with information that could help identify the man are encouraged to call the police department at 541-482-5211, O’Meara said.
