Ashland School Board to swear in 2 new board members, 1 incumbent on Thursday

School Board retreat planned July 28-29 at district office

Two newly elected Ashland School Board members and an elected incumbent will be sworn in Thursday evening, July 10, at a regular school board meeting in the Ashland City Council chamber at 1175 E. Main St.

Newcomers Deltra Ferguson and Jordan Rooklyn will take their posts on the board, as well as Board Chair Rebecca Dyson, following a swearing in ceremony.

Rooklyn (position No. 1), Ferguson (position No. 3) and Dyson (position No. 4) earned their spots in the May 20 special election. The regular meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., is open to the public. There is also a virtual option by going to this link.

Rooklyn, who also serves as the city of Ashland’s deputy city manager, won the post   with 4,376 votes (64.5%), according to final tallies posted by the county elections office.

Ferguson tallied the most votes for position No. 3 with 3,739 votes (56.42%).

Dyson, re-elected to her second term, tallied 3,926 votes (58.68%) to keep her seat for a second term.

Also on the agenda on Thursday, board members will vote for a vice-chair and chair.

Board members will also hold a school board retreat from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 28, and Tuesday, July 29, at the school district office, 885 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The meeting is open to the public.
