Information session Thursday for those thinking of seeking office; final filing deadline Aug. 19

Less than a month before the filing deadline for the Nov. 5 general election, a handful of candidates have filed with the city of Ashland, leaving, for now, some offices without candidates and others with candidates running unopposed.
In November voters will consider candidates for the mayor’s office, four council seats and two seats on the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission. Almost all of those who have filed to run are incumbents.
Mayor Tonya Graham has filed to run for the mayor’s seat, while Councilor Gina DuQuenne filed to run for council seat 5, Dylan Bloom for council position 3, and Jeff Dahle for council position 2. For Council position 1, now held by councilor Paula Hyatt, Teresa Cisneros has filed to run; Hyatt has said she will not.
No one has yet filed for APRC commission spots 1 and 2, currently held by Stefani Seffinger and Jim Lewis.
Those interested in running for office can attend an information session hosted by the city from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the City Council chamber at 1175 East Main St, according to a release from the city. The evening session will touch on the responsibilities and limitations of the offices of city councilor and parks commissioner, how these offices fit into the city of Ashland’s city manager form of government and what prospective office holders can expect from the work itself, according to the release.
The deadline to submit all paperwork and complete all processes to file for the election is 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, according to the city’s page.
For information on how to file election paperwork or other questions, contact the city recorder.
