Matching grant funds can be used for property renovation, bringing structures up to code, and much more

Ashland businesses could receive up to $20,000 in matching grant funds to renovate their property through a new pilot program offered by the city of Ashland.
The program aims to help business owners improve the facades of their spaces through upgrades such as outdoor lighting improvement, awning repair, installing signage and other cosmetic improvements. Outdoor seating and landscaping projects will also be accepted, according to the city of Ashland’s website.
Project funds can also be applied to fixing “any code violations where the health or safety of employees or the public are endangered,” as well as infrastructure changes to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Business owners anywhere within city limits are eligible to apply, which they’re advised to do soon — funds will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. All grants are available for matching up to $20,000 and additional funds can be applied for after initial projects are complete, according to the city’s website.
The program will award up to $175,000 per fiscal year — July through June — through the 2023 biennium. The program will be funded through a portion of the city’s Transient Occupancy Tax which must be spent on generating tourism.
Recipients will be required to maintain their properties for 10 years after project completion.
