As fall approaches, the Ashland Independent Film Festival volunteers and coordinators prepare for the festival’s triumphant return to the Rogue Valley. With a new executive director, the festival is set to involve plenty of new ideas, events and programs while maintaining the classic film festival experience.
The Siskiyou Crest Coalition is hosting a fundraiser Saturday afternoon, July 13, at a private conserved property on the slopes of Mount Ashland owned by Mark Newberger. A butterfly species list is being compiled for the property, which will be the subject of an upcoming article in the North American Butterfly Association magazine and will be a nominee for NABA butterfly garden of the year.
Opportunities to taste a variety of foods cultivated in the Rogue Valley and tour local farms and ranches, will be available this coming Sunday. Kids activities, guided tours, live music, and meals for purchase are some of the offerings expected at the event.
A new Ashland Goodwill retail outlet expected to open its doors in the first half of December will include a Job Connection Center, according to representatives of Southern Oregon Goodwill. Work began in March at the new location on Jefferson Avenue in the light industrial district just south of Exit 14.

Collaborating together as communities to adapt how we live inside and around forests is the way to respond to increasing fire risk. That’s the idea Ashland-based nonprofit Lomakatsi Restoration Project will present at a free forum Monday evening in Ashland.
