A Letter from the Board President

Dear Ashland and Talent,

Recently the value of living in a community where key news reporting about civic life is available was demonstrated. Ashland.news reported on the debate over building a new city water treatment facility. Also, Ashland.news produced a Community Forum, online, to help the public learn the facts about this project.

As Ashland.news nears the completion our third year, it’s important to tell you what we are doing and how you can ensure that we will be here to serve you with reliable local news reporting for the foreseeable future.

Ashland.news is an independent, nonprofit, community-supported, local news service. We report what’s happening in Ashland and Talent, and we finance that work, primarily, with community support – one-time donations and monthly Sustainer-donations.

Community support is the key to our sustainability.

Last year 67% of our operating funds came from about 1,250 donors, about 400 of whom became Sustainers who donate to us once each month.

Eighty percent of those funds were used to pay our professional news team. (If you want more details about how we use your donations, click on Annual Report at the bottom left corner of the Ashland.news home page).

Now for the third year in a row, we are teaming up with the Institute for Nonprofit News to raise operating funds for Ashland.news. INN gives us matching funds for part of the drive, so when you give to us in November and December your donation can be doubled. Overall, our goal is to raise $120,000 by December 31, 2024.

President, Ashland.news Board
