SOU Theater presents ‘The Wolves’ through this weekend

Soccer fans especially, take note: A play now at Southern Oregon University is for you and anyone with an interest in the greater themes that can be found in women’s sports. SOU Theater presents their first production of the academic year “The Wolves” by Sarah DeLappe. The show has five of its eight performances left, wrapping up on Sunday, Nov. 19.

SOU: Enrollment numbers show ‘strong rebound’

Fall term enrollment at Southern Oregon University is showing a strong rebound, with the institution’s largest freshman class since 2018, the university announced Friday. The number of new freshmen at SOU increased this fall by 15.1% compared to a year ago, while the number of incoming transfer students is up by 10.6%. Overall, the student headcount is 162 higher than that of last fall — a 3.4% gain to a total of 4,889.

Chair of communication selected as director of SOU’s new School of Arts & Communication

Southern Oregon University has hired Andrew Kenneth Gay, a professor and chair of Communication, Media & Cinema, as director of SOU’s new School of Arts & Communication, a role  which also includes overseeing the Oregon Center for the Arts at the university. Gay has worn many professional “hats” since joining the SOU faculty in 2014, including his current appointment to the SOU Board of Trustees.

SOU takes steps toward sustainability

Southern Oregon University is continuing to aim for sustainability on its campus, including in its vehicle fleet. SOU on Tuesday announced it has added two hybrid (gasoline-electric) pickups, in addition to the completing two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to serve residents at Student and Family Housing.

Latest posts

Helicopter logging project in Ashland watershed begins

Helicopters will be carrying logs out of the forest above Ashland seven days a week beginning Thursday, April 18, according to a city announcement. The work will start above Walker Avenue in Siskiyou Mountain Park. After one week the helicopters will move to the top of Granite Street and work in the lower Ashland Watershed for two weeks.

Thousands turn out for 31st annual SOU powwow

More than 2,000 community members gathered over the weekend for Southern Oregon University’s 31st annual powwow. The event, hosted by the school’s Native American Student Union at the Lithia Motors Pavilion, is known as the largest student-led event on campus. The event spanned both Saturday and Sunday, with grand entries Saturday afternoon and evening and again mid-day Sunday.
