SOU renews agreement with sister university in Guanajuato, Mexico

Southern Oregon University administrative leaders are in Guanajuato, Mexico this week, visiting its Mexican sister institution, the Universidad de Guanajuato, and officially renewed the schools’ 55-year relationship on Wednesday by pledging in a new memorandum of understanding to “strengthen institutional collaboration in the areas of teaching, research and extension,” according to a news release.

The Oregon Department of Energy awarded SOU $1 million in a third round of state funding to help accelerate the university’s goal of becoming the nation’s first public university to generate 100% of its daytime electricity.

How’s your Monday going? Southern Oregon University football team players’ week got off to a good start. When they came in early Monday morning, each player found in their cubby a new pair of black Nike cleats, donated by Heisman Trophy-winner and quarterback for the Washington Commanders Marcus Mariota.

‘Telling the American narrative’: SOU to conduct archaeological investigations of historic eastern Oregon logging town this fall

With a newly funded $20,000 grant from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, some Southern Oregon University’s Sociology and Anthropology Program students and staff will travel to eastern Oregon this fall to perform archaeological excavations for a logging ghost town that once was home to a diverse community in the early 20th century, including African-American and white loggers.
