All For Pickleball fundraiser

The Ashland Parks Foundation will hold its first annual pickleball fundraiser and youth clinic on Saturday, Sept. 16,  at the Lithia Park pickleball courts in Ashland.

There is a $50 minimum requested donation. All funds will go to the Ashland Parks & Recreation Foundation for pickleball court maintenance, upgrades, and equipment.

There will be prizes for adults’ high scores and raffle prizes for children.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

DATE: Sept. 16, 2023 (Saturday)

WHERE: Lithia Park Pickleball courts

ROUND ROBIN format, play 6 games, first to 11 wins

Group 1: Skill Level: 2.25 –3.25 (Beginner – Advanced Beginner)

7:45 am –Check in, waivers, and warmup

8:30 am – Play begins, 15 minutes/game period

11:00 am – Play ends. Highest scorer awarded prize

Group 2: Skill Level: 2.25 – 3.25 (Beginner – Advanced Beginner)

12:15 pm – Check in, waivers, and warmup

1:00 pm – Play begins, 15 minutes/game period, play to 11 points

3:30 pm- Play ends. Highest scorer awarded prize

Middle School FREE Learn to play Pickleball Clinic. Paddles and balls provided

4:00 pm – Check in, waivers, and instructor assignment

4:30 pm – Clinic begins

5:30 pm – Clinic ends. Drawing for Pickleball set.

Group 2: Skill Level: 3.5 – 5.0 (Intermediate – Advanced)

12:15 pm – Check in, waivers, and warmup

1:00 pm – Play begins, 15 minutes/game period, play to 11 points

3:30 pm – Play ends. Highest scorer awarded prize

Bill Thorndike Jr. remembered as community titan, treasured friend

Family, community members and longtime friends of Medford native Bill Thorndike Jr. were collectively at a loss for words over the weekend at the sudden loss of a man they say had a hand in nearly anything good to happen in Southern Oregon for much of the past half-century. Thorndike, 71, suffered a heart attack early Saturday morning, just following a Valentine’s Day spent with his wife, Angela Thorndike, at a family cabin on Whidbey Island in Washington’s Puget Sound.
