Author and Southern Oregon Historical Society archivist Jan Wright will give a talk on Oregon historical figure John Beeson at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Southern Oregon University’s Hannon Library, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.
The presentation will focus on Beeson’s advocacy for indigenous people, which politically disqualified him for residency in Territorial Oregon. Wright’s book “Oregon Outcast: John Beeson’s Struggle for Justice for the Indians, 1853-1859,” chronicles his story.
Wright has studied local history for more than 20 years. She also serves as Harry & David’s archivist and has served as executive director of the Talent Historical Society.
