Book launch party for “Social Forestry: Tending the Land as People of Place”

Hobart Bluff KS Wild

Join local author, Hazel, and the crew at Siskiyou Permaculture at the release party for the new book, “Social Forestry: Tending the Land as People of Place,” published by Synergetic Press. The event will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at the KS Wild Center, 562 “A” St., Ashland.

Book sales, signing, and refreshments will start at 4 p.m.; Q&A salon will start at 5:30 p.m.

This amazing book is the culmination of a lifetime of experience and thoughtful exploration. Climate adaptation, human survival, and conservation efforts to maintain biodiversity that supports life on Earth requires radical, back-to-the-roots grounding and intentional dedication. “Social Forestry” helps readers remember the ways of the wild while implementing local food production, collaboration with conservation efforts, forest management, and stabilization of headwaters to build resilience for the long term. To live in harmony with our surroundings, we need to re-skill, always remembering those who came before us and acting in ways that honor traditional wisdom of people and place.

Teaching was not a “job” for Amanda — it was a passion. She is especially remembered for involving students in creative projects and also for giving every one of them a hug as they left her classroom at the end of each school day.
