In July 2022, the James Webb Space Telescope debuted its astrophotography prowess, sharing some of the clearest images of the cosmos that Earth’s gravity-tethered denizens have ever laid eyes on.
The ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum will celebrate this event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, according to a news release.
“The (telescope) will examine every phase of cosmic history: from the first light in the universe to the formation of galaxies, stars, and planets, to the evolution of our own solar system,” the release says.
Commemorating the first round of famed space snapshots will include hands-on activities, with a focus on star formation, optics, and paper rocket design and testing. NASA ambassador Colin White will also hold a question-and-answer session from noon to 1 p.m. A slide show showcasing images from the telescope. The first 100 visitors to the museum that day will receive a print of one of the images.
