Contradance returns to Ashland

Contradancing will be held 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at The Grove, 1195 E. Main St. The dance style is fun and easy to learn. Experienced dancers and rookies are welcome. No experience or partner is necessary.

Join callers Becky Nankivell and Leda Shapiro, with live music with Kevin Carr, Josie Mendelsohn, (and from Seattle) David Cahn, and Molly Tenenbaum.

COVID protocols required:
 No symptoms or recent known COVID exposure
 Masks (K/N95 or KF94) required
 Proof of vaccine (per CDC “up-to-date” immunization schedule) AND signed waiver will be required.

Oregon getting federal money to improve habitat for imperiled western monarch butterfly

Millions of western monarch butterflies once visited Oregon and other Western states each spring to drink flower nectar, pollinate plants and lay their eggs after wintering in forests in coastal California. But today just a couple hundred thousand make the journey. Obituary: Ruth Bell Alexander

Obituary: Ruth Bell Alexander, 80, a pioneering women’s health advocate, writer, and community leader, died Dec. 4 in Ashland. In 2005, Ruth Alexander was elected to the Ashland School Board, where she served two terms as a vocal advocate for equitable education and student engagement. She organized the whole town into a one-week television hiatus called “No TV Week” in the early 1990s.
