Family Friendly Puppet Show coming to Ashland – August 10!

On August 10th, String and Shadow Puppet Theater (Olympia, WA) will bring their 5th annual giant puppet show, Or So It Would Seam: A Giant Puppet Voyage into the Hidden Universe to Ashland, Oregon. The family-friendly performance will take place at Lithia Bandshell and begin at 6:30pm. Tickets will be on site and will be a $20-$35 suggested donation per person. The show runs about 75 minutes.

Full of giant, articulated puppets and intricate paper-mache masks, Or So It Would Seam is a blend of whimsical fairy tale, outer-space odyssey, and slap-stick clown show. The original story follows Space-Way Assistance Driver Captain Z (think, tow-truck driver in outer-space) as a mysterious distress signal prompts him to enter a mystical dimension. Between interdimensional subway cars, expanding black-holes, and giants who weave the fabric of space-time, Or So It Would Seam takes audiences on a riotous adventure out of this galaxy to contemplate the intricate and unexpected ways we are all connected to one another. Filled to the brim with giant puppets, original storytelling, and live music, Or So features a cast of 13 performers/musicians – and you, the audience!

String and Shadow is a theater company based in Olympia, Washington. Each summer, they create a giant outdoor touring puppet show that weaves together a variety of puppetry styles, circus arts, and original music. With copious amounts of cardboard, fabric, and paper-mache, String and Shadow’s worlds of fantasy and fable aim to pluck at the strings of universal wonder, innocence, and joy.

Formed in the summer of 2020 to bring a Drive-In puppet show to their community in lock-down, String and Shadow has gone on to create six original full length shows and to tour their shows throughout Washington. Oregon, California, Montana, and Utah. They regularly collaborate with parks departments, libraries, nonprofits, and public schools to bring their unique performances to the public. They are currently a company-in-residence at The Olympia Family Theater.

Mark your calendars for August 10th when they will be performing at 6:30pm at Lithia Bandshell! Tickets may be purchased at the show. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Bill that could have offered utilities protection from fire lawsuits gets fix

Oregon lawmakers on Tuesday tweaked a bill intended to increase fire mitigation to ensure it does not also offer utilities immunity from liability in lawsuits for wildfires ignited by power lines. The change to a single sentence in House Bill 3666 comes as a relief to some critics, who feared that giving utilities wildfire safety certificates that establish they’ve “acted reasonably” by state standards would in effect offer them absolute immunity from liability in lawsuits if their equipment causes a wildfire.
