Opening Reception: “Other World/s” at the Schneider Museum of Art

Join the Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) for the opening of “Other World/s”, a captivating group exhibition curated by SMA Executive Director Scott Malbaurn, featuring the visionary works of Heather Lee Birdsong, Ben Buswell, Alex Ito, and Stacy Jo Scott.

Opening Thursday, January 16 at 5 p.m., the exhibition delves into the concept of alternate and parallel universes, drawing inspiration from science fiction and the shifting realities of our time. An opening reception will take place Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. with the artists and curator in attendance. The opening reception is free and open to the public; complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine will be provided.

The exhibition will be on view through March 15, 2025. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is always free, but a $5 donation is suggested. More information at https://sma.sou.edu/exhibitions/other-world-s/

Bill Thorndike Jr. remembered as community titan, treasured friend

Family, community members and longtime friends of Medford native Bill Thorndike Jr. were collectively at a loss for words over the weekend at the sudden loss of a man they say had a hand in nearly anything good to happen in Southern Oregon for much of the past half-century. Thorndike, 71, suffered a heart attack early Saturday morning, just following a Valentine’s Day spent with his wife, Angela Thorndike, at a family cabin on Whidbey Island in Washington’s Puget Sound.
