Judy’s book, “Soul Companion: A Memoir” is the true adventures of Judy Hilyard as she travels to the Afterlife as an Anam Aira, a soul companion for those who have died or are in the final stages of dying. Judy was awakened to this work just as she was finishing a 47-year career as a left-brain-focused intensive care nurse.
In her second presentation at RVML, Judy will continue with more enlightening and fascinating experiences from the other side of the Veil; experiences that will give you hope and wonder about what is possible in connecting with loved ones who have passed.
Judy will share what she has experienced and learned as she cares for souls on both sides. It is joyful work that is love-affirming for all – it relieves the fear of death for those still here and is helpful to anyone worried about loved ones who have crossed over, or those who just want connection with dear ones who have died.
It offers comfort to those recovering from constrictive religious beliefs. And it’s a fascinating first-person account of out-of-body experiences, death and dying, and the Afterlife.
Anam Aira work translates from the Celtic as the work of “one who cares for the soul.” Anam Airas are people who have been trained in the ancient tradition of compassionately escorting those who have a great fear of death through the transition process.
The tradition of Anam Cara, Celtic for “soul friend,” dates back more than 1500 years.
An Anam Cara works by offering compassionate companionship and guidance to everyone involved as a person prepares physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually for the transition beyond this life and body.
Anam Cara’s assist people who are conscious and can communicate to identify and complete the unfinished business of their lives. They help clients transform long-standing pain connected to issues of forgiveness, meaning, hope and relationships.
To prepare herself for Anam Cara work, she shifted her focus from critical care of the body and mind to care of the soul. Judy completed a two-year Sacred Art of Living and Dying program, followed by a two-year Anam Cara apprenticeship, through the Sacred Art of Living Center, in Bend, Oregon.
Judy has also completed three residential programs at the Monroe Institute in Faber, Virginia. These programs prepared her to access expanded levels of awareness and consciousness required to communicate without words.

Judy Hilyard, RN, MN, is a retired ICU Nurse with 47 years’ experience and two master’s degrees, all very sound credentials in Western medicine but not needed for the Afterlife work she now does. At the end of Judy’s career, she learned to be an Anam Cara, a soul friend, offering extraordinary counseling to provide a peaceful death for others.
That led her to the ancient role of Anam Aira, one who crosses the Veil, not generally practiced today. Judy set out to learn how to cross the Veil between physical life and death to assist souls in their transition. Judy has been doing Anam Aira work for several years, helping hundreds of people—those about to pass over to the Other Side, those already There, and those still here in physical form.
