Sunday Worship: Singing From The Heart: The Sound of Gospel

October 15 @ 10:30 am

Free

Because many of us came from other religious backgrounds, we may have thrown out the baby with the bath water when we found those other religious experiences wanting.

UUs are looking for meaning, but we also tend to be a bit cerebral. Gospel music, although rooted in faith based communities, can show us how to move out of our heads and back into our bodies to be open and impressionable. Gospel music is about feeling and believing, but that can also mean believing in ourselves, in each other, and the differences we can make in the world around us. Come join the RVUUF choir and experience some UU Gospel!

“Gospel music is nothing but singing of good tidings– spreading the good news. It will last as long as any music because it is sung straight from the human heart.” ― Mahalia Jackson

Here comes the boom: ‘Exploding stuff can be fun’

Exploding gummy bears, self-carving pumpkins, elephant toothpaste and plumes of fire from erupting chemical reactions, oh my! Students and members of the public filed into the Science Auditorium on Friday afternoon — not for a lecture, but for the annual “Fall into Chemistry” live demonstration at Southern Oregon University.
