Walk for Hope

Asante Foundation is thrilled to announce its third annual Walk for Hope, a community event to honor and celebrate cancer survivors, caregivers, families and the memories of those we have lost to cancer taking place Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Mary and Dick Heimann Cancer Center, 3011 E Barnett Rd, Medford.

This uplifting event is free to all participants and welcomes everyone to join in a 1.5 mile walk around the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center’s Medford campus. The day begins with check-in at 9:30 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 11:00 a.m. and concludes with a lively finish line celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., featuring music by Rogue Suspects, local food trucks and fun activities for the entire family.

Walk for Hope supports cancer care services at Asante, with 100% of all proceeds helping provide critical support and resources to those who are facing cancer in our community. The event is free to the public though preregistration is required. You may also sign up to volunteer if you are interested in serving as a course guide or traffic safety volunteer to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Lucky fire break: Second fire on day of Almeda Fire was extinguished by Greensprings crew

A wind-driven grass fire ignited near Almeda Drive on Sept. 8, 2020, ravaged its way northwest through the wildland urban interface, destroying thousands of structures through Talent and Phoenix. The direction of the wind that day is often credited with preserving Ashland from the fire. But there was also a quick intervention from the south, when firefighters with the Greensprings Rural Fire District extinguished a vehicle fire intentionally set on fire at Emigrant Lake.

The unveiling of the final version of a major mural project in downtown Ashland was a big night for the local art scene. More than one hundred people crowded into the warehouse-sized studio of muralist John Pugh on Helman Street on Friday night to see Pugh’s vision for a mural that will adorn the Ashland Elks Lodge at 255 E. Obituary: Amanda Pyle

Obituary: Amanda Louise (Butler) Pyle, 80, a longtime Rogue Valley resident and elementary school teacher, passed away Sept. 3 at Celia’s Hospice House in Medford. Teaching was not a “job” for Amanda — it was a passion. She is especially remembered for involving students in creative projects and also for giving every one of them a hug as they left her classroom at the end of each school day.
