Williams Plant Propagation Fair

The perfect event to share cuttings of (labeled) fruit trees, plant, and seeds.

The main attraction is “making” a custom fruit tree.

When you arrive, there are many little white buckets with sticks in them. Each has a label with a description. Choose the variety you want, grab a stick of it, and label it with the blue tape and marker lying around. Then take that to the rootstock station and select the type of tree you want and purchase the appropriate rootstock for your planting site (3 to 5 dollars sliding scale). Now bring this material to the Grafting station where an expert will graft the scion onto the rootstock for you. Of course you can take scion home and graft it onto an existing tree you have.

Ruby from Faerie Road Farm will teach classes. 1pm Intro to Grafting, an 2pm Dormant season fruit tree pruning.

Women’s basketball: SOU wins handily in first round of national tournament

For the fourth year in a row, the Southern Oregon women’s basketball team is through to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. In Friday night’s 86-52 first-round win over UC Merced at Lithia Motors Pavilion, the Raiders made it look routine. The task gets taller, literally and figuratively, in Saturday’s 5 p.m. second-round matchup against No. 7 seed Wayland Baptist (Texas).

Review: RTC’s ‘Doubt’ is surely thought-provoking

Brilliantly acted and staged at the intimate Richard L. Hay Center at the Grizzly Peak Winery, Rogue Theater Company’s production of “Doubt,” as director John Sipes writes of the play, “serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us to be wary of the narrowness of moral certainty and encouraging us to embrace the ambiguity and uncertainty we so often face.”
