Originally known as Etna by 19th-century settlers, the current moniker may have originated nearly a hundred years ago. Kim Thurman is a member of the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society and Association of Professional Genealogists. A Shady Cove resident since 2008, her family ties to the Upper Rogue date back to their relocation from Chicago in 1971.
The monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people, values, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays, in-person).
