Firefighters quickly corral blaze just north of Ashland

Spread held to about a half-acre west of Jackson Wellsprings

Multiple fire agencies responded to a fire reported at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, on a hillside west of Highway 99 between Ashland and Talent, according to reports from the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District and Medford Alert.

Thanks to the efforts of several fire engines from ODF and Jackson County Fire District #5, buttressed by water drops from a helicopter, within about a half-hour the wildfire’s spread was held to about a half-acre off Frank Hill Road just west of Jackson Wellsprings.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
