A 25-year-old Grants Pass man died Wednesday after he was injured during a mountain biking race in the Ashland watershed, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Forrest Anthony Angwin, 25, of Grants Pass, was wearing a helmet and other safety gear during a sanctioned race when he crashed, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Deputies and Ashland Fire & Rescue personnel were called out at about 6:30 p.m., but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

A separate report indicated the accident happened on the Snark Trail, which connects Waterline and Bandersnatch trails, according to hikingproject.com.

Jackson County Search & Rescue personnel also responded.
