Letter: America’s involvement in wars is unconstitutional

April 7, 2025

It has been reported that the U.S. will send nuclear-capable bombers to Diego Garcia, an island in the Indian Ocean to get them closer to Iran — on behalf of Israel. Yet, this is not all.

The U.S. is now at war in Ukraine and is aiding Israel in wars in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Gaza. Millions of people have been killed, injured and displaced by these conflicts — highlighted by the Israeli genocidal attacks on Gaza and the West Bank. This has been condemned by the United Nations and every major human rights group.

These wars are in flagrant violation of the U.S. Constitution. It is absolutely clear: Only Congress shall declare war. Since World War II, however, Congress has never done this.
