It seems to me the state wants to jump to electric trucks without going the intermediate step cars went through, hybrid electric. There is a successful company in Canada making the animal and it is working well. Perhaps it’s an answer to getting some of the cake until battery makers can figure out a better solution. Especially for rural Oregon.
I have pulled a modest-size RV all over the state for years. I have a 20-year-old diesel pickup that does a wonderful job with good mileage. At this point, had I the resources I could see myself upgrading to the hybrid model.
The Oregon lawmakers should allow that step. And U.S. truck manufactures should take them up on it. As I understand the situation with battery technology, it appears truck-grade batteries will be at least a decade in the future.
