Letter: ‘Here is an accessible link to that very important speech’

January 16, 2023

I was glad to see the viewpoint about Martin Luther King Jr.’s anti-war speech published here on this day commemorating and remembering his important role as a true practitioner of non-violence in the pursuit of justice.

The speech, “Beyond Vietnam — A Time to Break Silence,” was a revelation for me when I first read it several years ago. Sadly, when I went to revisit those words through the link to the Stanford University site mentioned in the linked article about the speech, the Stanford site blocked access. Here is an accessible link to that very important speech: https://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkatimetobreaksilence.htm.

I encourage everyone to read it in full as its words resonate yet today as fully as they did 55 years ago.
