Letter: In defense of cats

July 25, 2023

I would imagine Paul Huard is going to get a lot of blow back from cat people for his comments (“Dispatch from Ukraine: Comforting the afflicted — and getting some in return“). But as a cat person, I would say this. Cats can be just as devoted to their humans as dogs; they just communicate on a different level.

Ignore a cat, and it will ignore you. Maybe you have heard the tongue and cheek saying, “If you want to know what it’s like to have kids, get a dog. If you want to know what it’s like to have a wife, get a cat!”

I like dogs. I just have not wanted to take care of one.
