Some Americans, concerned about their country’s “great divide” and the political vitriol that has resulted from it, blame Trump. Maybe they shouldn’t. The problem is the majority of Republicans, who remain supportive of the most corrupt president we have ever had.

I worry about these voters. I worry about the moral code they consult to guide their life decisions. It’s difficult to grasp, at least for me, how anyone would choose to reelect a man who continually lies about winning an election he lost, a man who disrespects women, panders to white nationalists, consorts with convicted felons, who has been impeached twice and now, at last tally, has been charged with 91 felony counts.

These voters fail to see how deeply this man has traumatized this country. They excuse the fact he nearly dismantled our democracy by subverting the outcome of a legitimate election. How can a man of his character (or lack of) ever make America great if he places himself above his pledge to uphold the Constitution?

It’s time to remember and take pride in the ideals we have in a country that has fought to ensure freedom, justice and equality for everyone. It’s time to turn our attention away from a man whose ego has betrayed our loyalty and trust. It’s time to make America, not great, just better. And move on.
