Letter: ‘Our mayor owes our city staff an apology’

July 7, 2022

Ashland.news reports that Councilor Tonya Graham takes exception to Mayor Julie Akins’ comment about a “forensic” audit of our city being appropriate at some point, but offering no evidence for her use of that term.

Perhaps our mayor doesn’t know what “forensic” means: “relating to or denoting the application of scientific methods and techniques to the investigation of crime.” Our mayor owes our city staff an apology either for alleging they may have committed some crime, or for her misuse of a common word on social media.

A former President throws around lurid accusations with the intent to slur public servants all the time. I hate to see his tactics being emulated here in Ashland. Calling out the mayor on such tactics is not “bullying” her, as the mayor suggests. It’s calling out the bully herself.
