Music, choir, dance, drums today in Lithia Park

Ashland Mayor Julie Akins hosts May Day event

“It is time to gather as a community in person again!” Ashland Mayor Julie Akins said in announcing a free May Day event featuring music, dance, poetry and a drum circle from 3 to 6 p.m. today, May 1, in the Butler Bandshell on Winburn Way in Lithia Park. “Come out and celebrate May Day with your friends, family and neighbors! Everyone is invited!”

The lineup includes a welcome from Akins at 3 p.m., followed by remarks by area historian George Kramer, the Peace Choir, Company & Clark Dancers and Phoenix Sigalove.

Manya Yana Orescan Campos is due to hit the stage at 4:25 p.m., followed by the Ashland Saturday Drum Circle, then Craig Wright with Mason Alexander, and concluding with closing remarks by Akins.

Co-hosting the event with Akins, according to its Facebook events page, are Nicole Herzmark and Craig Wright.
