New executive director announced for Opportunities for Housing, Resources & Assistance

Dan Cano succeeds Cass Sinclair leading Ashland nonprofit focused on supporting individuals in need

Ashland’s largest social services hub has announced the hire of Dan Cano as its new executive director, according to a news release from nonprofit Opportunities for Housing, Resources & Assistance

“We are delighted Dan will be leading our team at OHRA. With his impressive track record of advocating for those at risk, combined with his leadership abilities and business acumen, we know we are in capable hands as we continue to grow our organization,” OHRA board President Cathy Gerbracht said in the release. 

Cano served most recently as Vocational Services Director at  Transitions-Mental Health Association in San Luis Obispo, California. He was also previously executive director at Central Coast LINK where he worked with homeless families and at-risk children, and secured more than $4 million in funding as grant writer and program designer for Mixteco Indigenous Community Organizing Project, according to OHRA’s release. 

Cano has demonstrated experience in grant writing, strategic planning and program design, a masters degree in business, a law degree and is bilingual in English and Spanish, the release said. 

Prior OHRA Executive Director Cass Sinclair completed her time in the position Oct. 4 after resigning to pursue a new career opportunity, as previously reported by Ashland.news. Sinclair, now executive director of the Rogue Community College Foundation, was to remain on as a consultant for three months after leaving the role to help train her successor.
