An Oregon Government Ethics Commission training Wednesday helped Ashland officials and staff better understand Oregon ethics law in the wake of two violations last year by local officials. About 12 officials and staff attended the more than two-hour ethics training in the City Council chamber.

Homeless man injured in fire on city night lawn dies

Rick Bevel was 68 years old when he died Friday, April 26, about a month after he was discharged from the intensive care unit at a Portland hospital where he had been treated for injuries sustained during an altercation and ensuing fire on Jan. 16 at the city of Ashland’s dusk-to-dawn sleeping area — an event his fiancée says led to his death.

Obituary: Born Aug. 31 , 1954, in Danbury, Connecticut, Katja (Karen Louise) Machcinski passed through the heavenly gate on May 8, 2024. A talented ballet dancer, she was accepted into the Juilliard School and was a principal dancer of the Oregon Ballet Company. Katja lived in Ashland, Oregon, for many decades.
