Dorothy E. Goldsmith (Parkhurst), 95, passed away peacefully In her sleep on July 6, in Medford. Born on March 2, 1929, in Minatare, Nebraska, Dorothy was a beacon of strength and generosity throughout her life.
Beginning her career early, Dorothy worked at the San Francisco Fly Casting Club on California’s Truckee River, where she found a second family among her colleagues. Her life took a challenging turn when she was widowed early, prompting her to return to school and embark on a noble career as a licensed practical nurse. Dorothy dedicated many years to caring for children and newborns at the Rogue Valley Medical Center Pediatric and NICU wards.
In retirement, Dorothy continued to serve her community by attending local Bible studies, assisting people with transportation to medical appointments and providing respite for caregivers. Her giving spirit touched many lives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. (Jack) Goldsmith Sr., and her sons John Jr., Robert V., and David W. Goldsmith, as well as her brother Marvin and sister Betty. She is survived by her children, Patricia A. O’Neal, Steven E. Goldsmith (Janet), and Kathryn E. Kreisman (Steve), along with 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Richard Rogers will officiate.
