March 31, 1934 — May 28, 2024

Lois Astrid (Tudy) Maddox was born on March 31, 1934, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, to George Ross Adams and Lois Gue Adams.

After moving with her family via travel trailer to Oregon, her father started a home construction business in Medford, with the family sometimes living in custom new homes built by her father, until the homes were sold.

She graduated from Medford High School, where she met the love of her life, Raoul. Their love resulted in marriage, and after a stint in the Army Band in Fairbanks, territory of Alaska, where son Todd was born, they settled in Ashland, where three more children were born, Timothy, Mark and Amy.

Tudy primarily looked after the children so Raoul could focus on his music and teaching career, including long stints leading the Ashland High School band and music program, and directing the Ashland City Band.

While raising the family, she also worked part time for years at Lawrence Jewelers in Medford and Paddington Station in Ashland.

She was an integral part of the Ashland community, maintaining lifelong friendships through such organizations as PEO, the Tudor Guild and the Ashland Presbyterian Church.

Tudy was very active, sharing passions with Raoul that included tennis, skiing and sailing. She and Raoul traveled extensively and met and retained friends wherever they went. Many winters were spent in Rincon de Guayabitos, Mexico, and later in Apache Junction, Arizona.

They maintained their home in Ashland until Raoul’s passing in 2020, whereafter Tudy enjoyed her rooms at Bonaventure in Medford. Though it was a bitter blow when she lost daughter Amy at age 9 in 1973, Tudy remained stoic yet always involved. She did not let bitterness or regret overtake her, but continued to love her family and friends as always. Her strong spirit helped her in the move after Raoul’s death to living on her own for the first time. Losing her son Mark this past February was hard for all the family, but especially for Tudy.

She recently celebrated her 90th birthday and Mother’s Day with family. The family is thankful for these gifts from Tudy. She is survived by her son Todd Maddox his wife Shannon and grandson Bradley; her son Timothy Maddox and his wife Kim and family Corey, Caitlin and Tracy; and her grandchildren by Mark and Colleen Maddox: Corrine, Ben and Emily. She is also survived by her sisters Nancy Payton and Joy Bodell.

We have faith that she is now reunited with her husband Raoul, son Mark and daughter Amy.

A celebration of life ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Medford Congregational Church, UCC, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford.

Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
