Obituary: Nelson Davis

Nelson Davis moved to Ashland in1973, and he was influential in town for decades to come.

Nelson Davis peacefully passed away on Aug. 7 surrounded by his family.

Nelson was born in on Aug. 9, 1950, in Illinois. After growing up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, he moved in 1973 to Oregon, where he became a massive influence on the community.

He taught at the Montessori school from 1977 to ’79 and worked as a children’s program director for KSOR radio (JPR) from 1979 to ’80.

Nelson Davis helped countless businesses and community members erect buildings, houses, decks and more during his years with Copeland Lumber and Ashland Lumber.

Afterward, he managed Frank’s Pizza in the days of Brooklyn on the Creek from 1980 to ’82 and he ran the Beanery from 1982 to ’88.

Nelson worked from 1988 to 1994 at Copeland Lumber, where he found his home away from home and his work family at Ashland Lumber until his passing.

Over the decades, he helped countless businesses and community members erect buildings, houses, decks and more.

People loved Nelson for his amazing attitude and personality. His humor would light up a room and his presence was felt by everyone.

The community and our family lost a major member of all of our lives.

His memory will live on through his surviving wife, son, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren and five siblings.

He will be missed by the entire community of Ashland. May the great spirit accept him with open arms.

James Edmondson, accomplished OSF actor and director, dead at 86

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, suffering the loss of a second distinguished alumnus in the span of little more than a week, flew its flag at half-mast in honor of the two men. James Edmondson, an actor, director, and educator with more than 38 seasons at OSF, born in Montrose, Colorado, on June 29, 1938, died at home in Ashland on April 2, eight days after the death of Tony-nominated and fellow OSF veteran Denis Arndt.
