May 22, 1933 — Sept. 20, 2024

Ramona Ann Bounds was born on May 22, 1933 in Stamford, Connecticut, to Hassie Mae Ella (Curd) and Hubert “Jesse” Beeman Taylor. She was the oldest of three girls born to her parents.

Ramona moved out West with her parents and they lived in Sacramento for a period of time. As a young woman she was very striking and soon married Thomas Wasson. Together they had, in order, five beautiful children: Alice Marie, Sharon Louise, Richard Arthur, Thomas Bryan and Linda Ann.

“Nana” was an animal lover as well as an avid camper, rock hound and world traveler.

Ramona and her children lived in Klamath Falls on their ranch, up until Ramona and Tommy went their separate ways. Ramona and her kids moved and settled in Ashland. She again found love and married Alvin Bounds. They had three more musketeers: Julianna Alona, Joshua Alan, and Rosellen Alanna.

Ramona had a zest for life and left an impression on all who had the pleasure to meet her. She was an avid gardener, Elvis Presley fan, rock hound and world traveler. And for many of us she was simply “Nana.”

One of Nana’s talents was for making her signature potato dishes: mashed potatoes and flour gravy, potato salad and her fried potatoes — which no one still can replicate at home.

She was blessed to have many talented grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she loved them all. Nana was also a world-class camper and taught all how to make a fire, set up camp and generally survive. Two weeks with Nana at Whiskeytown or Big Lagoon would make all your fears disappear as you learned how to swim, look for moonstones and pan for gold.

Nana was also famous for driving the all-encompassing DORF and teaching and instilling in her children and grandchildren a little bit of wildness and crazy for allowing us to ride on top on the rack.

Ramona was one of the most resilient and toughest women. She overcame adversity in her life and lived to the ripe age of 91. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, animal lover and friend.

She was Nana. Who blessed some of us with life (eight children), her infinite wisdom, her silence, her stubbornness and the twinkle in her eyes.

Ramona passed away peacefully, surrounded by some of her children, on Sept. 20 at Celia’s House in Medford. She was preceded in death by her daughter Julianna Alona Bounds and three grandchildren. Ramona is survived by her sisters, Valerie Glinkman and Anita Westmark, and her children Alice Marie Georgianna, Sharon Louise Carter, Richard Arthur Wasson, Thomas Bryan Wasson, Linda Ann Cook, Joshua Alan Bounds and Rosellen Alanna Bounds. She is also survived by her many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
