High school students to call for action on climate crisis

By Bert Etling, Ashland.news

Immediate action on the climate crisis is necessary, prompting a group of Ashland High School students to walk out of school at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, and march down Siskiyou Boulevard to Ashland Plaza for a community rally starting about 11 a.m., according to a news release issued by the Rogue Climate organization.

The youth will demand that adults, local elected officials and community leaders join them in taking immediate action to address the climate crisis, the release said. Speeches, music and performances are expected at the Plaza.

The rally will culminate with the announcement of the launch of a local campaign to transition off fracked gas in new buildings, the release says. The campaign builds off the city of Ashalnd’s clean energy and climate action plan and ordinance that youth helped pass in March 2017.
