Unite Oregon regional director to discuss challenges of being Hispanic in the Rogue Valley

Discussion will be about creating community for everyone

Unite Oregon officials will take part in a talk on the challenges and strengths of being Hispanic in the Rogue Valley from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 16, at the Jefferson Center Salon in the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St., No. 1, according to a news release.

The event is free and open to the public.

Virginia Camberos, Unite Oregon’s Rogue Valley Regional director, will take part in a discussion on the background and issues the community faces, including the background and current issues faced i crating a vibrant, supportive and just community for everyone in the face of sometimes serious obstacles.

Southern Oregon University emeritus faculty member Joseph Graf will facilitate the event.

“Among topics we want to address are economic, family, education, language, immigration, legal system, youth culture and legislative actions that can make systemic change,” the release said.

The event is part of Jefferson Center’s Salon series. The center is a Rogue Valley nonprofit focused on critical thinking using secular humanist values to understand and engage with issues important to the community. Visit thejeffcenter.org for more information.
