Snow forecast Monday — and possible every day through Friday

An atmospheric river will bring a healthy dose of winter weather to Southern Oregon and Northern California from Sunday night through Monday, according to a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service office in Medford, with a chance of rain or snow in the forecast for Ashland every day through Friday.
The most significant impacts are expected Monday morning, according to the warning, which became effective at 4 p.m. Sunday and expires at 10 p.m. Monday for elevations above 2,000 feet, Ashland’s approximate elevation.
Heavy snow is expected at higher elevations, particularly east of the Cascades, with travel impacts likely there and on Interstate 5 over Siskiyou Summit south of ashland.
One to 2 inches of snow is possible between 1,500 and 2,000 feet, with 4 to 12 inches expected above 2,000 feet.
The forecast for the city of Ashland calls for lows of 32, 23, 23, 28 and 29 for Sunday through Thursday nights, respectively. Highs are forecast to be 35, 36, 35, 38 and 36 on Monday through Friday.
At least a chance of precipitation is expected all of those days in Ashland, with snow forecast Monday, a chance of snow Tuesday, snow likely Wednesday, snow followed by more snow or rain Thursday, and snow likely on Friday, according to the NWS forecast as of Sunday afternoon.
A severe weather shelter is open from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. all nights through March 31 at 2200 Ashland St.
