Arrest made after he returned to scene while police officers, deputies present

Ashland.news staff report

A man seen starting fires at about 7:43 a.m. today, July 13, in a vacant lot near the intersection of Ashland Street and Tolman Creek Road was arrested after initially fleeing the scene, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Roy Worden, 43, was confronted by witnesses and left, but came back after Ashland Police Department officers and sheriff’s deputies had arrived to investigate. Officers took Worden, who was identified as a “Medford area transient” in the release, into custody.

He was taken to Jackson County Jail and booked on a charge of reckless burning, then released pre-trial due to Senate Bill 48, according to the release.

“This arrest was a great example of community members staying alert and helping law enforcement to keep us safe,” the sheriff’s statement said. “During fire season it is especially important for all of us to have an increased sense of awareness and to keep our community safe.”
