Jec Ballou Equine Fitness & Performance Clinic

Massie Equine Veterinary Clinic & The Equine Healing Center is thrilled to announce that renowned author and equine fitness expert Jec Ballou will be hosting a two-day riding clinic focused on equine fitness and performance on May 31st and June 1st, 2025.

Jec Ballou, a lifelong equestrian with a deep understanding of equine physiology, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this exclusive clinic. Raised in a horse training family in Vermont and having studied dressage extensively throughout Europe, Ballou eventually settled in California, where she recognized a critical gap in equine training.

“About 15 years ago, I realized that most of the problems riders struggled with stemmed from their horses not using their bodies well. They lacked strength or coordination, they had muscle imbalances, they were stiff, and so on,” says Ballou. “Meanwhile, horse training had become too specialized and way too complicated. We needed simple, straightforward tools to help horses use their bodies optimally.”

This realization led to Ballou’s groundbreaking book, “101 Dressage Exercises for Horse and Rider” (2005), which was endorsed by the United States Dressage Federation as an essential resource for all riders. This was followed by three more highly acclaimed books, including “55 Corrective Exercises for Horses,” “Equine Fitness,” and “101 Western Dressage Exercises,” all of which have been translated into multiple languages and are trusted worldwide.

Ballou’s approach emphasizes simple, straightforward techniques to help horses regain freedom of movement, enjoy exercise, and build strong, healthy bodies. Through her publications, customized fitness plans, online courses, and in-person clinics, she empowers riders globally to achieve their individual goals, regardless of discipline.

“Jec Aristotle Ballou has spent her life with horses, studying dressage around the globe alongside a tireless passion for equine exercise physiology,” states Dr. Massie of Massie Equine Veterinary Clinicr. “She is a tireless advocate for the horse, committed to promoting the understanding that quality athletic movement can never happen as a result of shortcuts, force, or hurried training methods.”
