City officials: Oak Knoll driving range suffered ‘extensive damage’ with wind gusts toppling poles that supported netting

Ashland.news staff report

The Oak Knoll Golf Course and driving range are closed due to storm damage.

According to a news release on Ashland’s city website, crews are clearing debris from a storm that brought heavy rain and strong winds Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. The driving range suffered “extensive damage,” with wind gusts toppling poles that supported the range’s netting.

City officials hope to reopen the golf course in coming days, but said the driving range will remain closed indefinitely while they assess the full extent of the damage.

Rachel Dials, deputy director of Ashland Parks & Recreation, said during the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting Wednesday, Nov. 5, that wind gusts blew over 17 poles at the driving range. She said another seven that were left standing are “unstable.”
