Scouts BSA Troop 112 will host a Memorial Day Observance in honor of fallen veterans Monday, May 27, at Mountain View Cemetery, 440 Normal Ave., Ashland. The Ashland Brass Band will perform at 10:30 a.m. with the formal observance starting at 11 a.m.

For the love of literacy: First graders treated to ninth annual Ashland Reads on Wednesday

First-graders in Ashland will be treated to a reading extravaganza on Wednesday at Ashland High School. The Rotary Club of Ashland and Rotary Club of Ashland Lithia Springs will host the ninth annual Ashland Reads “celebration of literacy” for about 170 first-grade students in the Ashland School District from about 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Ashland High School.

Ashland Scouts practice bike safety skills at Bike Rodeo

Some 30 Ashland Cub Scouts brought their bikes to The Siskiyou School on Monday evening to learn from experts about the importance of bike safety and bike maintenance. Organizations including the Rogue Valley Transportation District, Ashland Police Department, Ashland Cycle Sport and Ashland Devo shared safety tips, provided mechanical tuneups, and encouraged the scouts as they pedaled about.

Rotary Club’s annual CrabFest a huge success

Stevenson Union’s Rogue River Room was jam-packed with happy crab aficionados Saturday, Feb. 24, as the Rotary Club of Ashland Lithia Springs presented its 25th annual, all-you-can-eat Kids First! CrabFest. The community-based event raised about $70,000.
