A familiar face is taking over as the new ski patrol director at Mt. Ashland Ski Area.

Mark Daly, a certified ski patroller, brings more than 42 years of ski patrolling experience to the role as the area’s ski patrol director. Daly has a long-standing commitment to Mt. Ashland spanning 24 years, which ski officials say reflects “a deep and enduring connection to the mountain and its patrol community.”

As ski patrol director, Daly is “committed to maintaining the high training standards established by his predecessors, mentoring and developing future patrol leaders, and fostering a cohesive, mission-driven patrol team dedicated to guest and employee safety.”

Got snow?
Mt. Ashland Ski Area closed indefinitely as of Jan. 1 due to low snowpack. As of Saturday, Jan. 3, snow is in the forecast through Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Daly long-standing association with Mt. Ashland spans multiple periods of service, including 1984–1987, 1991–1994, and 2007–2025.

A certified ski patroller and an active member of both the Association of Professional Patrollers (APP) and the National Ski Patrol (NSP), Daly is also an Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) instructor and trainer, with extensive experience in medical education and patrol training. Ski area officials said Daly’s background “emphasizes professionalism, preparedness, and consistent excellence in on-mountain care and operations.”

Daly served as treasurer of the Mt. Ashland Volunteer Ski Patrol from 2010 to 2022, where for more than a decade he provided “steady financial stewardship and organizational support.”

As patrol director, Daly is “committed to maintaining the high training standards established by his predecessors, mentoring and developing future patrol leaders, and fostering a cohesive, mission-driven patrol team dedicated to guest and employee safety.”

Daly and his returning skiing patrol members are being assisted this season with eight new certified ski patrollers who have been working with all of Mt. Ashland’s returning ski patrol member.

“If you happen to recognize anyone in this dedicated group while you’re on the slopes, make sure to give them a wave and express gratitude,” ski area officials said, noting, “We truly can’t do it without them.”

Something new for Daly and other ski patrol members is a new Patrol Hut located at the top of Sonnet that Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol has reportedly “lovingly dubbed ‘The Beehive.'”
