Select chairlifts begin operating Thursday as new snowfall raises hopes for full mountain access

As snow begins to blanket the region, Mt. Ashland Ski Area will reopen Thursday, Feb. 19, but with limited terrain, the nonprofit announced late Monday afternoon.
With snowfall forecast for the next three days, officials said they are optimistic about the reopening, according to an announcement on the Mt. Ashland Ski Area website.
At 9 a.m. Thursday, the Sonnet, Lithia, and Comer chairlifts will be open, as will the First Act Learning Carpet, the announcement said. Meantime, the Windsor and Ariel Chairlifts will remain closed until staff see what the snowstorm will bring, according to the announcement.
Staff said the base of the mountain needs about 2.5 feet of snow and a couple of days to open the entire mountain, according to the website.
The Locker Lodge and lockers will remain closed for now and reopen when more terrain on the mountain opens, according to officials.
Until Thursday’s opening, the ski area is closed to all traffic, including the uphill, as workers prepare the mountain for reopening.
